Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI)
The Social Housing Registry is where applications for Rent-Geared-to-Income (RGI) housing are accepted.
Home Base Housing’s Housing Help Centre is one location in the city where the applications are available. By filling out an application with one of our Community Support Workers at the Housing Help Centre, applicants can apply to more than one housing provider by completing only one application form.
- At least one person of your household must be 16 years of age, or older and able to live independently.
- Each member of your household must be a Canadian Citizen, or have applied to be a permanent resident of Canada or have Refugee Protection — a copy of appropriate documentation must be included.
- If you owe money to any federally, provincially or municipally funded housing provider in Ontario, you must re-pay the money in full or have a repayment agreement in place. The repayment agreement must be in good standing and you must supply a copy to the registry.
- Your household income but be lower than an established income limits which is based on the number of bedrooms that are required along with occupancy standards.
- Assets, such as the amount of money in a bank account must be below $50,000 if you are applying as an individual or below of $75,000 if there are other members in your household on your application.

Special priority
The Housing Services Act, 2011 gives priority ranking to social housing applicants whose personal safety, or whose family’s safety is at risk because of abuse due to domestic violence or human trafficking. If you are a victim of abuse, you need to fill out a special priority application. You can include this form with your RGI application or send it separately. You need to be eligible for RGI before you can be granted special priority.
If you are eligible for RGI and have been granted special priority, your name will be placed above those already on the CWL.
Yes, there is a waitlist. Wait times vary depending on housing locations, bedroom size required/available and vacancy turnover.

Before arriving at the Housing Help Centre at 540 Montreal St. (see contact page for a map), be certain that you have the correct identification.
The accepted ID is Canadian birth certificate, Canadian passport, Canadian citizenship card and Indian status card. The application form has additional suggestions for acceptable ID choices.
